I run a fledgling social site, with any site where you rely on contributors for content you become open season to spammers and other idiots, that goes with the territory and you put in place safeguards against it.

What has astounded me, is I've had a few signups lately and their email addresses lead back to sites that are selling prescription drugs cheap. These people have been suckered into parting with cash on a promise of a commission from any sells their wonderful cookie cutter web site produces.

As a vehicle for making money it's fine, there's lots of people who make a living out of affiliate marketing which of course this is. The downside is the average Joe who only sees the pound signs that are being promised in the sales spiel hasn't a clue how to market a product online and so ends up spamming everywhere.
An affiliate program for drugs, that's got to be wrong hasn't it?

Here's the link to the site that has cropped up the most, although I daresay there's more.

Edit: link removed by admin.

I know this has been going on for ages, my hotmail junk folder is often full of this and similar rubbish. Are there more and more people getting involved or are the same people flogging a dead horse? It seems to me if you've got to resort to spamming you aren't making money so don't bother.

I'm not saying that it will stop, but I hear loads of bad stuff regarding hotmail accounts, so you could change your email.
Unfortunately. spammers are a hazard on most peoples computers. The attitude that I take is if I don't recognise the sender, I delete it or designate it "phishing".
It is better to be safe than sorry.

I only use hotmail for junk stuff anyway, anything connected with Microsoft is targeted by hackers and spammers and should be avoided as much as possible.

I just can't believe that people would sign up to a website to sale drugs. The chances are that those who signed up to my site weren't from the Island and were done automatically by a spambot.

Are there people who would buy from a site like this just to save a bit of money? Would you? Or are the owners just selling affiliate programs and making their money that way?
