We're thinking of moving to the I of W from France. We've always liked it there & my husband spent many a holiday there in his youth. Is there still a better quality of life than the mainland? What effect does tourism have in the summer months? Is West Wight still the most peaceful place to live? We have so many questions but thought we'd start with these few.
Would be grateful to read any comments.
Cheers
Jacqui. |

Quality of life is definitly better, but then we came from London so anything is better. I have never been to the West side but have heard it is very beautiful. We moved to Ryde in June and haven't looked back since. The wages are lower and the buses are more expensive, but we have the sea, excellent farmers markets, brillant pubs/restaurants and lower rents. The people are nicer and I feel alot safer here.
I am sure there are bad points but the good stuff out weighs it.
Good luck |

| I moved away from the Island in 1985 for work and ended up in north Lancashire, near the Cumbrian border. I loved it there; quiet, beautiful scenery, nice people. When I retired in 2005 I returned to the Island because I have family here. Although I had made regular visits to the Island, I was surprised at how busy it had become and how the population had increased. The Island is still beautiful and quality of life is better than many areas in southern England but it is busy in the Summer with some kind of festival every other weekend it seems, and a lot of events aimed at the 18 - 30 group. South West Wight is still the most peaceful place I think, although Totland and Freshwater are much bigger than they were. Hope that helps a little. |

I live at West Wight and would definitely say that it is a lovely place to live.
I find that one of the nice things about the Island is that although there is crime on the Island it is fairly minor compared to lots of places on the mainland.
I suppose one of the negatives of living on the Island is getting off again which can be very expensive, but I suppose a small price to pay for the beauty of living in such a lovely place. |

Ditto that!
There can be no better place to live and no matter what rumours circulate about some areas, they are a thousand times better than "inner city' life on the mainland.
Totland is one of my favourite places. |

| Isn't this the same thread (more or less) as the Sundays/Roads thread? |
