I hear the Beijing Palace in Ryde is going to reopen before Christmas. It burned down 3 years ago, only 2 nights after I had a meal there - it was a great restaurant, let's hope it will be just as good when it reopens. Someone from the old Island Gamers website took a photo of it just before it burned down - I still have it somewhere - it must be the last photo of the old thatched building that had been part of Ryde Esplanade for years.
On the subject of computer gaming, anyone else play Lord of the Rings Online? I'm just downloading the latest expansion -Siege of Mirkwood, and it's taking forever! |

| On the subject of computer gaming I must admit at my age I haven't the faintest ideas of what you speak! As for the Restaurant, where is it, or where will it be? |

It's by the Canoe Lake (on the opposite side to the Esplanade) and the new building looks very smart. I think it was one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area; I'm looking forward to trying it again.
On the subject of computer gaming, if you're suggesting you're too old to know about the subject, remember the first gamers, and game designers, will be in the their 50's and 60's now (like me, lol). These youngsters who think they know it all forget that computers were invented by my generation, although I have to admit that I personally can't claim any credit for it. |

| Your right about the gaming stuff. I recall the first time these games came on the scene in the form of ruddy great machines in pubs like space invaders! People would laugh at them now but like all technology we are 'standing on the shoulders of giants'! |

| Turns out I may have been a bit premature about the opening - although it looks finished, the sign says 'opening soon', so perhaps it won't be open before Christmas. |

| Latest information is that it will reopen as The Bombay Palace, obviously an indian restaurant and appears to be run by the same people who run the Indian Palace in Gunwharfe. |

LV Construction IOW would like to let you know that you are correct it is going to be an indian restaurant and will be opening very soon. There will be a private opening for the Bombay Palace this week and a donation from the attendees to "Help For Heroes".
This was a very challenging project for us to build, it has now had life breathed into it and is no longer just a shell, but a very lovely building. LV Construction IOW completed the build before Summer.
You will not be dissapointed with the finished product and one of our own local heroes who served in the Falklands Campaign will be there to accept the cheque on behalf of "Help For Heroes". Some of the people involved with the build are either ex-forces, serving with the TA on the mainland or have family that have been on operations around the world.
I Hope everyone who goes to the Bombay Palace has a fantastic time, I know that we at LV Construction IOW had a great sense of achievement once we had finished. |
