|
|
We have a photographic archive of the 1970 IOW music festival most of which will form part of the exhibition we are having at Dimbola Lodge in June. Most of the bands, we know the names for, but we have negatives of a band called (according to the envelope we found them in)"Moon". There is no mention of this band in any literature we have read so far. The lead singer looks a little like Hendrix (But isn't) and one of the guitarists looks like Daryl Hall (out of Hall and Oates). We have a couple of cracking images that we want to put up in the exhibition. If anyone thinks they can identify them, we can email them some thumbnails. They don't look like any of the lesser bands mentioned in the line-upwhich we have sourced images of.
We also have a picture of a man playing keyboard which is brill, but again we can't ID him.
Thanks - any help appreciated!! |

Hello again glennigogs!
The title to your message said the 1979 festival but the message itself says 1970. Assuming you did mean 1970, Wikkipedia has a full 'band list' for each day of the festival. No mention of a band called Moon but in that year The Who played the festival. So could it be a picture of the late Keith Moon? |

| Hi Sorry - spelling mistake - it was meant to be 1970. We have around 2-3 films of the Who for scanning, so we are aware that it aint Keith either. Whilst at our exhib in Sheffield, a record collector expert pointed us in the right direcrion, gave us a name (Noel Mc? - can't remember full surname at moment) and said they were signed to CBS at some point. Still if anyone has an idea about how to get a contact for them it would be great. |

HI EG!
Hope you are well. Thanks for this, any info is good info. We have since found out that the chap is Noel McCalla, and in 1990 he went onto be the front man of Manfred Manns Earth Band. In 2008 his son got as far as boot camp for Xfactor and the year after he tried himself, but didn't get that far!! But this looks like the first bit of info for the band Moon itself.
I went on this site recently myself for Jimi Hendrix info, as it happens - should have looked a little further. Thanks again.
We have just put the exhib up in Sheffield, and it is going down a storm. Local TV, news and radio have grabbed up the story too (look out Adrian Chiles!).
Look forward to seeing you if you come to the exhib and we are there (I think the opening is on thurs 10th June), just announce yourself.
AT Best
