No I'm not talking about my big fat wife for a change.
I'm utterly disgusted that on my morning stroll I have to endure the sight of dog walkers around Ryde, allowing their dogs to defecate on the beach, footpaths, peoples gardens, pretty much anywhere they like, then strolling off pretending it's nothing to do with them.
It makes me incandescent with rage. I'm small in stature so I can't confront them and usually look the other way so to avoid eye contact and potentially beaten up. I may even buy a secret camera to catch the offenders I'm that sick of it.
Can the council do anything? I especially hate dogs on the beach as it paints a really bad picture to Tourists.
I saw one man yesterday kick sand over the mess and stroll off, what a delightful find for a child playing in the sand!
In my opinion, dogs should be banned from the seafront and ALL beaches, all year round.
I'm going to go now and write to the council as I'm very, very angry. |

When I first moved down here I was surprised by the number of people who weren't picking up after their dogs and something does need to be done about that. Banning dogs from places isn't the answer, it'll just move the problem elsewhere without solving it.
There's enough beaches where dogs are banned in summer, so we don't need more dog bans. Why should the responsible owners be penalised as well as the irresponsible ones? |

I see the same thing day in day out with dog owners around Ryde.
The dog squats and does it's business, the owner looks around to see if someones looking, if they are they pick it up, if they're not they walk off.
Usually on the beach early in the morning, a small kick of sand makes the dog mess magically disapear. It makes me SOOOO angry.
The only solution I can see is banning dogs from ALL beaches and the seafront 365 days a year. Hopefully this will drum into them that they're not welcome on the beach, no matter how early in the morning you go out. |

We come over to the island as many times as we can and often visit out of season. We were walking along the beach at St Helens near the old Church, I think that bit of beach is called Sandy Cove. Anyway, it was February and the leaves were off most of the trees and bushes along the edge of the beach. As we walked we looked at the trees and lo and behold there were dozens of dog poo bags swinging in the trees where the dog owners had been too lazy to take their bags to a bin.
Winter exposes everything ! including you.....you know who you are |

Wow what a nasty vindictive little thread this is, perhaps the anti-dog people on this forum would like to take a look at what their counterparts in China and in France do to dogs. Goes to show just what your attitudes can lead to, and I bet they started out just like you.
If anyone reading it actually has a conscience perhaps they would like to sign up and help in putting an end to this despicable cruelty. After all they are all just little dogs that need to be looked after.

LOL, bit extreme Wightspy.
It isn't the dogs fault, but the owners for not clearing up and I have had to confront a couple of people about not clearing up after their dog. One old lady had the cheek to call me scum when I pointed out where her dog had done its business.
Just like there are bad drivers, there are bad dog owners that give the majority a bad name. I believe dogs should ALWAYS be on a lead and no dogs on beaches. There are enough parks around for them already. |

@lsc73 so where are you proposing all drivers be banned from due to the actions of the bad ones?
| Quote: | | dogs should ALWAYS be on a lead and no dogs on beaches | In that case you are anti dog and you also appear to know little about dogs as being on leads make them aggressive. Or is that the plan?
When you forced your opinions on this lady did you also mention your anti dog agenda as that could well account for her opinion of you.
There are very few parks as it happens and your lot would have dogs banned from those as well no doubt.

The banning of dogs from anywhere is not the answer as it is not their fault we find what is natural to them offensive.
I'm not a dog owner, but when I was a kid, my Dad had a couple of shelties, mini Lassies, both were trained to seeing eye dog standard and never wore leads when out.
They also didn't foul the streets as they were trained to use only our back yard as their toilet.
This training was for my Father's and anyone else who came into contact with the dogs convenience. Although domesticated a dog still lives by the rules of the pack and it is the owner who has to take on the role as head of the pack and this is where training is essential.
They are by nature very loyal animals and only want to please their masters. In many ways they are like young children, who need teaching right from wrong or else anarchy prevails. Unfortunately in this modern world with it's time constraints, some owners do very little if any training and so all dogs are tarred with the same brush and are banned from beaches or other open areas.
We take child cruelty serious and it is not tolerated, but bringing what in essence is a wild animal into a domestic situation without any training of some kind is also cruelty and it is this that needs to be attended to through legislation.
Licensing laws need to be stiffer, to be an owner you should have to complete a dog handling and training course, this would weed out the people who find the novelty of being a dog owner soon wears off.
This would also control the over breeding of dogs for profit, which results in animal shelters being over crowded and the eventual putting down of many innocent animals.
Here endeth my rant! |
