I am moving to Shanklin or Ventnor in September and have just been appointed to a post in Soutampton.
I will be using the Fastcat (passenger) service from Cowes, but I am intersted in the various modes of transport to get to Cowes (assuming that I don't have a car).
I am toying with the idea of getting a motorbike, but I am not sure of the parking options / costs at Cowes.
I could also use public transport (Rover Ticket), but I am not sure how long the journey would take.
Please assume that I would need to be at Soutampton Central Railway Station for 8.00am |

If you take the public transport route, you'd want to catch the train from Shanklin to Ryde. By doing this you'll have a choice of buses.
You'll have to sort out the times and bus numbers yourself, here's the links for buses and trains:

I'd be tempted to catch a bus to East Cowes then jump on the floating bridge to West Cowes and walk to the Fast Cat, this way you avoid a lot of traffic and avoid Newport.
If you get a bike, there's plenty of back streets you can park all day for free within walking distance of the Cat. |

If you need to get to Southampton Railway Station by 8.00am you will need to be on the 6.45am (at the latest) Red Jet from Southampton. So you should be able to find somewhere to park on the side streets in Cowes at that time.
I don't envy you the journey each day - I did it for two years and that was more than enough for me!
Not sure if you are aware but once you get to Southampton terminal there is a FREE bus that connects with the ferry which will take you to the railway station.
