It has been suggested that we could add a new section for users to share their photos of the island.

It would require users to upload their images to a free photo sharing website such as Photobucket, ImageShack or Flikr and then insert the images into a forum post or posts.

What do you think?

Surely that's no different to using the Img tags.

Have you checked out http://www.flying-bits.org/gallery/index.php

It's a gallery mod for the forum script you're using. As you can see the pictures display in a nice slide show window.

That might be worth introducing. It seems to be highly rated with over 12000 downloads.
Here's the download page:

That was the initial idea, yes. However, we'll be happy to implement something a little slicker, such as the mod you mentioned, if there's enough interest.

Why not add it anyway. If it's used it's used if not, well it won't be taking up any extra resources on your server.

That's certainly an option that we're looking at. Smile

The Island's a funny old place. Your site gets more use than mine and that's with Wight Portal having chat rooms, video, shout boxes, forums, articles, free ads and all the rest of the social rubbish that is supposed to be what people want. and yet I've posted more here than I have on my own forum.

At the end of the day you may as well just add stuff and see what happens.

If you google Isle of Wight Forums the first 2 results are this place.
Its nice to have all the bells and whistles like chat, video and shout boxes etc but sometimes a straight forward forum where you can drop by and have a quick post is all that some people need.

Having said all of that I am going to have a good look round Wight Portal

I checked out the site and it is difficult to navigate and seemed I had to register to view any posts. Also the initial page is all about advertising and I couldn't find the forum section easily. I also only heard of it through this forum, even though I have googled 'Isle of Wight life or info' etc many times!

But I admire anyone trying to get any kind of website going.

I think it would be great I am thinking of moving to IOW and would like to see photo's and I would think most mainlanders would love to see where they are coming to. We were there in Nov 2011 and took a few got a few rainbows.
