Even more shocking is that the sign in your picture cost us £1365.
This taken from a Freedom Of Information request asking the cost of these same signs at Ryde
Quote:

"The three triangular signs were purchased in 2008 at a cost of £1365 each"

Well done for your persistance in getting the information you requested. Very Happy

I think all that is required are temporary signs warning about the dangers of Weaver Fish. Yaverland must be one of the safest beaches on the Island.

It just made me smile when I saw all of the warnings !

That's what happens when everything is outsourced to outside companies.

When I worked in the stores at the Mountjoy depot, on a YTS after leaving school, signs were made up by a couple of chaps in a small workshop.

You can't tell me that buying ready made signs is cheaper than buying blanks and transfers and paying a guy to make them in house.

The only reason they list all these possible dangers is in order to comply with the criteria of the pointless coast awards, the cost of which is totally irrelevant to them as its not their money that they are wasting.

It's not irrelevant when service cuts and increases of council tax have to be made.
The private sector have always grown rich from Government outsourcing. But it doesn't necessarily mean that it's cheaper especially at a local level.

At the end of the day the Council are bankers we pay in and expect a decent return for our investment, we also expect our money to be used wisely to get our decent return.

We as a nation don't look carefully enough at how our money is spent by the Government and then just moan when they demand more.

It is irrelevant to them as they are at liberty to slash spending at will, as they have recently demonstrated, yet free to continue to waste money on what ever they choose to.

You say that the council are bankers investing our money, this certainly is not the way they see things as they view themselves as a business. Gone are the days when they were managing and safeguarding our assets, as they now consider the remaining assets, those which they haven't yet squandered away, are their property not ours.

We cant look closely at how they are spending "our" money as the whole system is skewed in their favour.

Well yeah they are a business and we as taxpayers are the shareholders.
It's only irrelevant to them, because we let them get away with the miss handling of our money. All we do is wait the four years decide whether or not the last four years have been any good and either vote the leaders back in or vote for someone else.

Looking closely at the spending is possible and can be done online. All Government accounts are audited and reports are published. I will grant you that understanding the terms used in some of the reports is a little difficult, but hey that's the whole idea so we the mere peasants don't look too close.
But even to a laymen it can be deduced with a little effort from the reports where the money is coming and going.
