Dear all

I've seen some really impressive pictures of scenes between Cowes and Newport taken from boats but I would hazard a guess saying these people used their own boat for this purpose!

Well sadly to say, I don't own one myself but I was wondering if there's any kind of river transport running from Cowes to Newport? I'd imagine it'll be far more popular in the height of the tourist season (which October isn't) but is there such a thing in operation?

With now only 7 weeks away until I'm visiting the island again, I really can't thank you people enough for assisting me with my many questions and I've certainly picked up a few names of places to eat at. If I'll have time or not is another matter! Three days isn't a long time!

Best regards

Gavin

A lot of mooring goes on up and down the river during the season and the Folly Inn in Whippingham used to and as far as I know still do provide a taxi service to shore for the yachtsman.

Of course Vestas use it to transport their blades off the Island, the sailing academy use it for training. But it's not used like it was or should be as everything is now transported by road.

One year when I was a kid, Newport's Carnival was held on the river with decorated rafts and barges. It's never been repeated.

Thanks for the information. Having searched up in a bit more detail, there is/was something called the Folley Waterbus. However I'm not sure exactly where this "service" actually operates. Does it go as far as Newport?

This will be interesting to chase up for a visit to the island in the future.

Thanks again.

Best regards

Gavin

Not as far as I know, but it goes to Cowes obviously and the Folly.
