Hi,
I'm a budding writer and photographer from London/Essex looking to escape the big smoke. I think the Isle of Wight is the perfect place to fuel my creative works. I've only been to the Isle of Wight once - in 2004 - but loved it immensely.
I'm a single male of 27 with no children or pets and am looking to rent a property from sometime in April until the end of the year while I work on my various projects.
Ideally I'd like to be quite close to the sea. Somewhere I can spend hours walking/cycling and generally keeping fit; as well as exploring the natural beauty of the surrounding areas. Additionally it'd be great to be near all the amenities.
Can you recommend anywhere for me?
Also (and I feel a little weird asking you about this actually) I'm a British-Asian and am a little concerned about 'fitting in' in a predominantly white population. Part of my desire for relocating is to meet new people and make new friends as I won't know anyone when I arrive. Any advice would be most welcome.
Thanks

Hi,
Loads of places to rent and nowhere is far from the sea. I don't think you'll stand out that much because of your skin tone or background!
Either google the estate agents on the island or try the Isle Of Wight County Press for renting info. But if you get hold of a copy, don't believe all the readers letters!
The Eastern side of the Island, e.g. Shanklin, Sandown, Ryde is the busier part, the West Wight, where I live, is much more rural, e.g Yarmouth, Freshwater etc. and regardless of what people say we don't actually eat people at this end of the Island! |

Hi Casey1954,
Thanks for the advice. Funnily enough, I did take a look at Shanklin on google. It looks like a lovely place (not that you can't say that about most of the island).
Even though I'm craving countryside I think I'd find it hard to adapt to the most rural parts of Wight. But I intend to explore the island from top to bottom anyway - so I'll get to see everything at some point (hooray).
Thanks once again for the advice
