Attempted burglary in W Cowes this week

Hello all. I just want to make residents aware of an attempted burglary on our house in W Cowes in the week. Four males attempted to break into our property early in the morning a few days ago. My wife and two small children were alone in the house! My wife came face to face with them trying to break through a rear door when she went to investigate the noise. Thankfully the Police were there in minutes and a sniffer dog tracked four suspects down. Needless to say there was not enough evidence to charge them so they walked the next day. We have now forked out thousands in security the past few days. Having just moved here from London FIVE weeks ago, it has now made our otherwise perfect move to the Island a nightmare. Everyone keeps saying how shocked they are that this has happened here. So we just wanted to warn everyone to be on the look out as there are some EVIL people out there at the moment.
Many thanks to the local Police for such a rapid response and in detaining some suspects so quickly. i am eternally grateful to them.

So sorry to read of this. It must have been quite awful for your wife and children - hope they are okay?

I do have to say though that it is quite a rare occurrence for something like this to happen on the island and generally the Island is quite a safe place to live. I am wondering if the burglars actually lived on the island or whether they had come across from the mainland.

I do hope that this hasn't blighted your move to the island too much.

As above was it a deliberate targeting or opportunist?

Get flood lights up, don't give the little cretins any dark corners to work away in.

Hats off to the police for the rapid response. As always let down by the judicial system.

Hi all,
They were released after 13 hours in custody. I have now spent thousands on the security system for the house. Even the local hedgehogs are picked up sharply at night with our all round camera system. And some other features that I will not go into on here. After 22 years in the Forces I know a thing or two and they have definitely picked the wrong house to mess with.

HI I too came to the Island for a fresh start, having lived in big cities most of my life, so I came to the Island for its security and beauty, but last
february I was burgaled they smashed my windows and doors to get in . I was at work at the time and lived alone, this terrified me and I still have not got over it , I was totally traumatised and am still very frightened, My insurance has now nearly doubled after just one burgalary and at the time everyone I spoke to said this was very rare on the island,BUT since then everyone ive spoken to or mentioned it too has a story of been burgaled or knows someone thas has been burgaled, im afraid its not as rare as people think, I too have spent thousands on security since and am still spending money that Ive not got
