Now that I've sampled aerial photography (keen to try it again when flights resume from Sandown/Bembridge) and bouncing across the Solent on a RIB; I'm returning to the island in the next few months looking for somewhere else to go and I heard about this path from Cowes to Newport.

Is this a dual pedestrian/cycle path? It seems to run right past the small industrial area where the silos are which may make some interesting pictures. Further on, I'd be hoping for some nice river views; anything would be nice. Smile

I was just wondering if its a dual-role pathway and if anyone has walked/travelled it; to hear their opinions.

Best regards

Gavin

It is dual use and was once the railway line to Cowes from Newport. It runs parallel to the river.

At the Cowes end there's grain silos, in the middle is the new wind turbine plant which is housed on the old cement works. There's also talk of a bio fuel plant going on this site. The path starts at the Riverway Estate in Newport.

There's also one on the other side of the river that leads to the Folly Inn in Whippingham, although this one isn't tarmac and is more suited to off road cyclists and wellie boots.
