Ladies and gents, we are moving to Ryde for good on Sunday, but we're having desperate trouble with the ferry crossing.... unless I'm being particularly thick (very possible).

Last time on the Island we paid around £20 for a return, with our car.

This time, as we're moving there, we obviously just want a single.... but can't find anything for less than £70???

We have the same car (our removal lorry will be coming in a couple of weeks) so what's happened with the fare?

Any help appreciated,
Gus

Hi Gus,

I'm assuming you have checked out the website for Wight Link ferries which is www.wightlink.co.uk

I had a quick look just now, and though I couldn't quite work out what the fare should be (I'm assuming it's one car & 2 adults) I can't see how it can be anything like £70! especially as I noticed they are doing a special offer for a car and 4 passengers at £42.50 return at the moment.

Good luck, and I am very jealous. I and my girlfriend are also moving to the island asap, but will be a few weeks yet.

Hi Nigel,

Yup, used the Wightlink link and they are quoting £70... switched over to the Red Funnel website and they are doing it for £27!

The drive to Ryde is only five minutes longer too, so I think the choice has been made.

Good luck with your own move,
Gus

Hi Big Gus

Welcome to the Isle of Wight and the reality of the cost of travelling on and off the Island - it is actually slightly cheaper getting off the Island than coming to it!!

Good luck with the move and hope you are very happy living here.

Thanks Iainey.

It's pretty daunting, especially as we have never tried running a hotel before, but what the hell.

I was getting bored of London, and my job - although I'll still freelance as a writer - so this is all new.

I'm looking forward to driving the business into the ground. Shocked
