possible move to freshwater

we have the opportunity of moving to freshwater and with a 2 yr /9 yr/14 yr old what is there to do? my 14 yr old son has adhd and gets picked on a lot of the time, my hubby and me are both carers by profession, so i presume getting jobs should be quite easy will we be making the right move? we're umming and aahing at present any advice welcome

To be totally honest there really isnt a lot to do for boys of that age, or kids in general for that matter. That side of the island is quite isolated and even in the summer there's not much to entertain kids for very long. If you really want to move to the island I would move to a more central location. There isnt a lot for kids anywhere on the island but Newport probably has the most to offer, but like I said, thats not much. Sorry if this sounds a bit negative but it appears that its quite an important factor in your decision so I'v been honest. Hope this is of some help.

Hi, me again. I just noticed that you say your son gets picked on a lot of the time. I'm afraid that would'nt change here. We have some very nasty gangs of feral kids here and I would be very concerned for his safety. If he likes the countryside and being in his own company then he would probably be okay but kids of his age generally dont like eithe of the above, do they, lol.

i was born a bought up in freshwater it was a perfect childhood as i love the countryside and the beautiful scenery i moved when i was 12 still go back and visit the trouble with kids today they only know how to entertain them selves with computers we played in the woods, built camps, went fishing, conkering, rode are bikes built go karts made catapults got dirty and a clip around the ear from our parents as for bullys they are everywhere but society today have procedures you can follow if you have problems at school and if out of school go to the police or confront the parents of the child concerned

Oh the good old days. When I was growing up, on the outskirts of Ryde, it was great. We used to be out playing nearly all day. Up the local duck pond collecting newts and toads to examine, and frogspawn to watch as it changed to froglets. Finding birds nests and checking them everyday until they hatched. Probably sounds like the most boring stuff in the world to most kids nowadays but we loved it! It's such a shame kids today don't want to do things like this anymore as it teaches them about the countryside and nature, and how to respect it but, as you say, mostly they seem to be stuck indoors glued to a playstations or the TV.
I'v lived in Ryde on and off all my life and have watched it steadily going down the pan. I can't stand the place now and wish I could move out to the country areas as not all of the Island has suffered the same fate as Ryde, thankfully. Still, one day I shall get the chance.......hopefully!! Smile

I agree with you, I was brought up in the town, but spent most of my time on different uncle's farms. I just loved being out in the countryside (still do).
As for Ryde, I work on the outskirts of the town and walk the dogs on the beach in an evening, but beyond that I just drive through the place, it doesn't appeal in the slightest.
