|

Hi
Im a member of a motorcycle club for cruiser/custom type bikers that go out for rideouts around the country during the summer to take in the scenary etc and just get out. I was stuck indoors the other day as it was raining looking at Google earth trying to work out good places to go riding and I thought that a leasurely circumnavigation of the Isle of Wight would be quite a good way to see a lot of coast line and a great way to spend a day or two.
As you can see an epic voyage worthy of Ewan Mcgregor, Michael Palin or Billy Connolly. I basically tried to set out a route in google maps that pretty much hugged the coast and in all it was around 61 miles but the actual route we would take will probably vary and most likely start at Cowes or wherever the ferry drops us off
Does this sound like a good idea and is it possible to circumnavigate the island by road in this manner. I know that directions on google maps can sometimes send you down roads that are private or inaccessable etc.
Also is there a camp site that would be accomodating if we decided to do this in two day with a nice pub/place to eat near by. Any thoughts would be welcome. |

Sounds like fun The boring bit is East Cowes to Ryde It also looks like that squiggle as you leave East Cowes is trying to take you through Osborne's grounds.
Just above the 'e' of Adgestone there's a little road going off to Culver Down, you might want to detour up there and back just to take in the view.
No suggestions for pubs or camp sites along the coast I'm afraid. |

Hi thanks for the advice. So it looks like riding around the whole island should be a possible.

Think you may find you will be able to lap the island 3 or 4 times (Even at a leisurely pace) in two days.
You will find plenty of places to camp, try Atherfield holiday park halfway down the military road they have biker groups stay there at other times so will be sure to welcome you.
Your route looks to be the most scenic, but definately take note of what "Carrie" said and go up Culver Down to take in the view...amazing
Safe riding |

What lovely photos. I have to admit Culver Down is one of my favourite spots on the Island. Spent many an hour just breathing in the views from the top. It sometimes feels like you're in another world and all your worries can fly on the wind! |
