| Hi I just want to say how many ignorant people there are on the island. I am a relatively young person who requires the use of a Mobility Scooter and where I am aware that they dont go as fast as cars I do try and accommodate drivers when im on the road and all I get is abuse time after time, telling me to get off the road . Let me inform you all - If you go 8 mph you are allowed on the road so long as you have a valid tax disc. Recently a woman pushing twins in a buggy was on the other side of the road to me on the pavement and she shouted across for me to get off the road, I turned back and waited for her to cross the road near me and explained I was eligible to be on the road and that I had a tax disc. She replied she knew the law and relatives of hers had scooters and they were not allowed on the road. WAKE UP people its about time we treated people with disabilites with some respect as you never know you may one day be in the same position. Enough said! |

Sorry to hear about your experience Misbehavin. Yes, some people can be very ignorant where disabilities are concerned but its not isolated to the Island it is widespread.
Also, I have to admit that I wasn't aware until quite recently when I was in a motobility shop with a friend that mobility scooters that go over a certain speed are allowed on the the public highway provided they have a tax disc. I was quite surprised at this as I had always understood that scooters were only allowed on pavements unless crossing over the roadway.
To be quite honest I think they are better on the roadway than on the pavements as unfortunately some of the scooter riders are quite a danger to other pedesterians. There have been cases where some riders have actually run into pedesterians in an attempt to "get them out of the way". This to me is just as ignorant as the experience that you have encountered. |
