Last Monday I saw two glass bottles in a shop in Ventnor, however the shop was closed. A sign on the door said 'call us on --- and someone will be there in 10 minutes'. I didn't have anything to write the number down nor did I have my mobile with me. The next day I went out, mobile in pocket, the shop was closed. I rang the number, waited 10 minutes. I rang the number again, waited a further 10 minutes. To my surprise, no one turned up and nor was my phone call returned.
On Thursday I was walking by the shop and someone was inside, I entered and the door was pushed back against me and I was asked to call back in half an hour. I replied that I was just enquiring about the bottles that HAD BEEN in the window, only to be told that he had sold them.
I then explained that I had rung twice previously in the week, as the notice on the door asks, only to be told 'sorry but he had been on the mainland.'
Today I went looking for a hanging basket liner, the shops most likely to have these items didn't. They had hanging baskets, but no liners.
Despite there being a good mix of shops in Ventnor, the shopping experience to be had is generally a poor one.
There are also no good clothes shops.
Now when I want to purchase items that aren't food or toiletries I will be going to Shanklin.
On a positive note, the shops which do have what you want when you want it, in the food and toiletries line are Somerfield, Boots and Lloyds. It is a good job the Big Boys are here for essentials. |
