Coming from somewhere that has an absolute rubbish bus service we are always impressed with southern vectis when we come over. We always get a couple of Freedom Tickets which gives us unlimited travel for a week and we havnt really been let down by the service. However when we chat to locals they tell us that its not that good a service and needs improving.
Just wondered if anyones got any comments on this.

Never used the buses, but the ones that run past the house give the impression that they're pretty punctual. From talking to work colleagues I get the impression that the downside seems to be the price.

Yes, I think it is expensive if you keep buying single tickets but for seven days unlimited travel a Freedom Ticket costs £20. At one time this included the train as well but now its just the buses, road trains and all open top bus tours so its pretty good value.

One of my favourite bus journeys is the number 10 from Sandown to Newport.
It goes along the front at Sandown towards Yaverland and up round the back of The Culver. Then past Bembridge Airport to the village. From there it goes down past Bembridge Harbour along the Embankment Road to St Helens. From St Helens it heads towards Brading through the narrow streets and then up along the The Downs to Robin Hill. Great views up on The Downs if you sit on the top deck. From Robin Hill on to Newport. Very few bus trips with views like that. Its worth doing even if you have a car. Very Happy

This is roughly the view you get from the top deck of the number 10 as you go across the downs to Newport.

Unfortunately where I live the bus service isn't that good as we only have a bus every two hours!! I can't even get to work by bus - if anything was to happen to my car I would be in trouble as I would have to get a taxi to work (at a cost of £18/20).

Yes, I suppose it all depends where you live. I did notice in the timetable that some areas have a pretty sparce service. Its alright for holiday makers but when you rely on the service to get you to work then its a different matter.
Overall I still think its pretty good, knocks spots off our buses !!

Lainey, you've got a long way to go to beat the bus service in the village where my friend lives in Buckinghamshire. There's a weekly bus service goes to Buckingham at 10:20 in a Thursday - it doesn't make the return journey Laughing

How do they get back? Do they have to wait another week before returning home?

Are you working in Newport any time soon? Thought we could meet up for coffee?
