I'm coming over to do my twice yearly visit to the island next week, time to visit the relations again. I was born and grew up on the Island. It always makes me feel that i'm coming home, a weird feeling really. I would really like to move back one day, but my partner has 'ferry issues'. I think this forum is a great idea. |

Hi Cazzy and welcome.
When you say your partner has 'ferry issues' does that mean they are afraid of boats or the price of a ticket!
Out of interest, when you were growing up here, how did you find it? Ive heard from some people who were born and bred here but left, that as a tennager it was dreadful because as one person recently told me "it felt like the whole island knew your business" but came to really appreciate it when older. |

The cost of the Ferry is the problem!!!
I left the island when I got married, then moved to Germany. I have always missed the Island, but always end up elsewhere. Growing up on the Island was very boring as a teenager. We always ended up in Pompey on our nights out! I do agree living on a small Island, it does seem that everyone knows your buisness, but I don't remember worrying about it much! |

Wherabouts in Germany did you live?
I ask as my girlfriend is German. We are both planning to move to the island in the next couple of months or so for a different way of life - were both in London at the moment and have had enough of it! I had a quick look at your website, is that your b&b? looks great. |

| I lived in Munster for 7 years, loved it there. I hope you will enjoy it on the island, whereabouts are you going to live? |

Thanks.
As long as were not far from the ferry and a half decent bus route, we don't mind (we don't drive) our biggest problem is accomadation. There are loads of propertys to rent but the majority are via letting agents who all seem to want large up-front fees which they say is for the cost of getting references (ie they make a phone call and maybe post a letter) It averages £200-300. Of course if we want to charge them the same so we can get references on them they are not so keen! So we want to rent privately if we can direct from an owner, but that does narrow the field a bit. We are coming down at the end of the month for a couple of day's, so fingers crossed we might find the ideal place. |

| Hi Cazzy, hope you enjoy your trip back to the island. I'm hoping to have a trip back home up north at the end of the month, certainly wish the ferries weren't so expensive. |

| I will be visiting up North next month. Going to Clowne to take my car for its first service. Hopefully will get chance to see my mum and a couple of friends too. |
