Good to see that new technologies like wave and tidal power will soon be centred on and developed with the island and its Council.
These methods of generating energy are both reliable and sustainable, unlike the much subsidised, but hopelessly inefficient, wind turbines.
The team who went to London should be congratulated for their efforts to bring companies to the island which will generate new and permanent employment, unlike those "grant chasers", who have just moved to yet another, bigger subsidy in the good old US of A.
More good news comes from BP in that they have discovered two more huge oilfields off The Shetlands and The Gulf of Mexico, thus giving the lie to the "peak oil" doom mongers and the "We must act now" lemmings.
Science, technology and mans thirst for knowledge will always keep us ahead of the pessimists and their fatuous predictions.

I certainly don't believe all the spin, but we have to face up to generating our own electricity and the best way is by the sea, be it tidal or wave power.
What makes me laugh is the spin of this totally incompetent government.
Three years ago when B liar was in charge, he said that nuclear was the only reliable way forward and to a certain extent, I agree, but people like Miliband want to cover the whole of England (including the IOW) with wind turbines which do not work and will only make shedloads of money for the operators.
Lets face it "Eco" is only a name.
Betcha the Grandstanding CO2 Conference in Copenhagen will NOT produce agreement.
Look at the history books.
The Kyoto conference said that 137 countries did not have to do anything to reduce emissions and said that the other 38 had to reduce by varying amounts and guess what? The 38 all said that they couldn't reach the targets set and pulled the plug.
The same thing will happen next month.

"IN" a hand cart, WP, "in"... Not "on"
I'm surprised a certain etcher sketcher hasn't picked you up on that! LOL.
@ tali
Yes it is a very popular bandwagon, especially for failed Lib Dem politicians who think people have very short memories!
@ George
Don't forget that it wasn't any Councillor or the Leader of the Council who coined this "Eco Island" tag.
It was the spectacular failure who was here for two years (just) as our C.E.O.
Of course it has now been adopted by all those muesli munchers who actually believe all this climate change nonsense.
Not for them the fact that the climate has always been changing.
No, it's just been in the last few years and we are all to blame. Laughing

The fast disappearing support for all things "eco" only serves to remind us that the green out-of-work student-types-with-little-to-do-other-than-screw-around, who are now atop Didcot Power Station are the same as those who were atop the site in East Cowes.
If this government had any claims to be "eco-friendly", they went out of the window with the plan to build two more like Didcot.
Wind Farms? Solar panels? Get outta here!
