What is the point of this website? It is never updated, has no information on it and generally not of any use whatsoever.
For instance, the Ryde Regatta is on this coming weekend. Not a mention on their website nor on their calendar. It would be handy to know the schedule of events and I would have thought that considering it is a large event held in Ryde, it should be on their website. Pointless! |

How many regattas does Ryde have in a year?
They have only just had one at the end of May.
I agree the Ryde Town council website is pointless, but seeing how the IW council run their website it is hardly surprising that this is seen as acceptable.
The IW council have just won a award for their website. This is because they have put all the resources into creating a 1000 + page information service. All well and good but the rest of the site is neglected with dead link, links that go round in circles, totally out of date and inaccurate information etc. etc. and they couldn't care less about it.
This 1000 page monstrosity they have created is coordinating a lot of different information sources and will have to be constantly kept up to date or it will be as useless as the rest of the site.
I wouldn't you could get very good odds when betting on how long that is going to take.
Have you seen that forum they have? They wont allow any comments on it give it a go, the last time they allowed a comment was in MAY! http://www.iwight.com/home/forum/yaf_topics6_Local-Issues.aspx

Actually they do allow comments and posts, but everything has to be moderated before it appears. My last post didn't appear until 4th of June, although it was submitted 29th May. The regulars who used it got fed up with the heavy handedness of the moderating and rarely bother with it now.
It could of easily of become an excellent tool for the Council to know what us peasants think of their governing, but they are too scared to open it up in case someone posts something that upsets the apple cart. They don't understand that a debate on a given subject turns sour if you've got to wait, sometimes up to a week, for your post to be published.

Well, I have to admit, I did email the Ryde Councils website and have a moan about the slackness of updating the website and got a very prompt response explaining the problems they have been having uploading documents and the clerk is so very kindly dropping me a program for the Regatta off this morning as I am unable to open it. Wow!! They're paying way over the odds for that.
Up to £500 for development. It's a modified Joomla script.
Up to £300 a year hosting
And because they use a .gov domain, an extra £141 every two years is charged.
How can you spend that sort of money and have problems uploading documents? |

No we are paying well over the odds for that.
The cost is irrelevant to them as we have to pay for it regardless of how much it costs, and whether or not they know how to use it. |
