|
|
I am planning to visit the island in 2011 as a spectator at the eagerly anticipated Island Games 2011. I will cycle to the venues and camp at an approved campsite in the evenings.
However I have been warned that local Caulkheads might try to steal my bike, even if secured with rope or a chain overnight. What can I do to protect myself from having my trip ruined ?? |

Is this for real?
Maybe you should in that case dismantle your bike each night and sleep with the bits in your sleeping bag.
Failing that, build yourself a bike trailer in the form of a shed to lock your bike up in.
Get yourself a movement sensor that barks like a dog when someone gets close to your bike. When you hear it rush out of your tent with a big stick and scare the nasty Caulkheads away. |

Mr Portal, that's just raw sarcasm....I hope you don't work in any kind of Customter Service capacity on the island, maybe in a B&B or chip shop or something
Elsewhere today on this site I read about the horrors of car vandalism on the island, yet there's no garantee anywhere that these beasts will be behind bars come the Island Games 2011
I consider myself a robust charachter, and will not be deterred from making a visit to IOW for the Island Games 2011, however others might be put off by such stories |

Yes you can't get a lower form of wit than sarcasm and no offence is meant.
But your post could quite easily of offended someone, accusing Caulkheads of being no better than the stereo typical assumption that is given to Gypsies, or travellers.
There is no doubt that crime does rise here during the summer months but the perpetrators are normally found not to be locals.
I don't know where you're from, but if you get your local crime statistics for your county and compare them to ours, and I bet you a pint the Island has the lowest crime rate.
Take a look at the bottom of this page:

I have to disagree, sarcasm is often very funny.
"...lowest form of wit..." is a stock phrase trotted out by those who are too slow to use sarcasm effectively.
In my opinion mimicry of people with physical or mental disabilities is the lowest form of wit. Or anything said on "Loose Women" |
