|
|
Hi, as other posts on this forum I have made, Im looking into relocating to the Island but want to cover everything first.
Whats the weather like in winter.
We currently live high up in the Pennines, West Yorkshire, and have a few inch of snow and persistent ice each year, also we have vast amounts of rain all year round.
Whats it like on the island in winter?, does it ever get very bad? do you get much snow and ice?
Whats the summers like?
Many thanks to all who have currently answered my many questions. |

At this particular moment it is chucking it down with rain and will probably end up being the wettest July on record. Our summer this year seems to of started in April and finished in May.
We had our first snow in 26 years last year, winters are normally mild and can be quite wet at times.
I normally put the central heating on in December and switch off in March. |

Thanks for the reply, my wife will like your answer as she realy hates driving in snow.
Here in Yorkshire, we have plenty of snow each year, and the central heating goes on at the end of October until mid April.
This year we had a great April but come mid May it had gone and only a week or so in June and half a week at the start of July.
Each year we feel that we have missed another summer. |

Being a "Yorkshire Lass" myself I can confirm that it is far warmer down here that it is upt'North!
Yes we did have some bad snow here last year but believe me it wasn't half as bad as the stuff you got up there (I know having been stuck in Sheffield for a week not being able to get back home!).
Also, what I have found is that when the snow does come here it tends to disappear a lot quicker than it does in Yorkshire. It doesn't "hang around" for weeks on end and you don't get the same icy conditions.
Mind you, as happens in Yorkshire, once there is a tiny whiff of snow public transport comes to a halt (well, that's what happens in Sheffield anyway!).
Hope this helps with your decision on whether to move or not.
Oh! just one more thing I certainly wouldn't want to go back to living in Yorkshire - going back to all that cold weather, no thankyou. Will stick to the warmth down here. I always find it difficult knowing what to pack when I visit Sheffield as it is usually so warm down here and then freezing when I get up North (and that's just in the summer months! LOL). |
